When I became the sole owner of Capital Carpet and Services one of the first things I did is to completely change our business plan.
Thankfully I am blessed to have a good friend who was the head of HR for a good-sized company to make sure what I wanted to do was legal and ethical.
None of my technicians get paid an hourly wage, instead, they get paid a set percentage of the job they do. The benefit is the faster and better they get the job done the more money they make. In order to get put on the percentage plan, our employees first must get through a probationary period, so they are qualified to do the job. In addition, employees must sign an affidavit that states that if they get a call back from a customer for any reason they must go back on their own time because they have already been paid for the job. The bi-product of this is it encourages the technicians to get the job right the first time.
As an added incentive the technicians can earn bonuses based on the number of positive reviews they get for the work they have done which we highly encourage.
The result of this change has been extremely encouraging, our Google reviews have been great and plentiful, our technicians are making more money and attitudes are very positive.
This has been a win/win and I encourage other service industries to adopt it.
